The Best CD Covers of 2010?

The best CD covers of 2010 are the best CD covers of the past. The NPR list got me browsing for other top covers of 2010 lists online. It was uninspiring. In fact, I felt like I could identify extremely similar covers from previous years to illustrate this, here are just three that came to mind.

1A. The Black Keys - Brothers

1B. XTC - GO2

I really loved this album in high school! The cover also reminds me of the Abbie Hoffman book, “Steal this Book”.

2A. Klaxons - Surfing the Void

2B. Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica

The Klaxon’s cover is one of the more original and memorable covers to make the top 10 lists. It reminded me of this cover as well as Rick Springfield’s Working Class Dog.

3B. Vampire Weekend - Contra

3B. New Order - Get Ready

I think I know where the Vampire Weekend cover was trying to go, where New Order was. I could go one but I’ll just enjoy the tunes.

A good 101 list, in order from the easiest to the most difficult—failing to move from online to offline.

To be nobody but yourself in a world that’s doing its best night and day to make you everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle any human can fight and never stop fighting.

The cause of being shaken seems to be outside, but it is always inside you, and its solution is inside you as well.

“Many hours are spent by warriors braiding each others’ hair. The long hair style is designated ONLY for warriors in the masai and samburu tribes. They color their hair red with clay & red ocher which is a pigment found in natural form in volcanic regions.”

Serge Gainsbourg - A Tribute

fieldmic: (via @simonstretch)

Great mixtape of Serge tracks after the link. There are precious few artists who are without parallel. Serge is one of those— the kind of individual that makes Pandora grope about uselessly for a bunch of nothing to accompany.

Boards of Canada - In a Beautiful Place out in the Country

MUSIC AS SOUNDTRACK: Recommended for a French film about being on the lamb, commercial spot for Plug-in air fresheners, Wednesday nightcap with a good mixologist.

Boards of Canada reportedly use subliminal messaging techniques to influence listeners. Have any tendencies that feel new and unlike you?
